Together with Chadō (tea ceremony) and Kadō (flower arrangement), Kōdō (incense ceremony) ranks as one of the classic arts of Japan cultivated by members of the aristocracy as a refined hobby. The two Kōdō ceremonial masters Yoko Obata and Junko Maruyama introduce participants to the traditional art of incense burning and the enjoyment of precious scented woods. Recognizing and memorizing different scents is believed to strengthen the mind and well-being.
